The Heart of a Missionary
Persuading People – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:11-15
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:11
Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.
As we continue our theme from yesterday, let’s take note of the apostle’s words from 2 Corinthians 5:11 – “Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others…” Paul understood what an awesome responsibility it was to help people find the “Light of the world.” He refused to take this responsibility casually.
This month we have been reminded that each of us has been given a mission, thus we are all missionaries! We must not take this lightly. God is calling us, equipping us, to go into our world each and every day ready to be an instrument in His hand. His goal is to have everyone come to saving faith. He does not want anyone lost! Jesus tells the story, in Luke 15, that even one lost “sheep” is unacceptable to the shepherd. He would leave the 99 sheep in order to participate in an all out search for the one sheep that had wandered away! What a wonderful picture of our Father’s heart for lost people. Let’s pray that God will give us that love and concern for people we know who are far from God.
Yes, the Apostle Paul is right, it is a fearful responsibility—we dare not look at it any differently! But where God guides, He provides. He will help us in our work!
Father, I don’t feel capable to fulfill the work you’ve called me to. Please grant me your wisdom and courage! In Jesus’ name, amen.
