Evangelism is Confrontational – Part 2

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Let’s spend another day on the myth that real evangelism is only a verbal presentation of the Gospel.  First of all, a verbal presentation is often the appropriate avenue that God wants in a given situation.  However, to think that I am not a good witness because I don’t walk up to someone and present the Gospel verbally is a myth.  The real key in effective evangelism is to sense what God’s Holy Spirit wants in that particular situation.  As the Apostle Paul wrote: “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25).

            Today, as we go about our normal routines, God’s Sprit may interrupt our routine and open up an opportunity for us to present the Good News of Jesus.  That opportunity may be fulfilled by a simple act of kindness in Jesus’ name.  That opportunity might be fulfilled by not joining in an unwholesome conversation, as Paul indicated in our additional scripture reading in Ephesians 4:29.  Another way we might fulfill an opportunity is to be full of joy in spite of a rough patch in our life.  People looking at our joy will want what we have and begin to ask questions (Hebrews 13:15).  Certainly the Spirit may want us to verbalize the simple facts of what Jesus did for us when that opportunity presents itself.

            Determine with me that this day will be a day that we will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and make the most of all opportunities.

Father, help me to keep my spiritual alertness at a high level so if you want to interrupt my routine, I will fulfill that opportunity.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
