The cry of our hearts must be that we might proclaim the Good News clearly

Myths about Missionaries
Everyone Knows Jesus

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:1-4

Key Verse: Colossians 4:4

Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

In our day of global communication, it is easy to believe the myth that everyone knows Jesus and can accept Him if they choose to.  This myth is wrong on a couple of levels.  First, everyone in this world has not heard of Jesus.  There are people groups in our world who have yet to be reached by evangelical Christians to tell them about Jesus and His love for them.

But a second level of this myth is even more devastating.  People may have heard the name of Jesus but fall far short of understanding who He really is and the teachings that He taught.  The mission of all of God’s children is still as relevant as it always was.  People need the Lord!  Millions upon millions are dying without the hope of eternal life in Christ.

If you are a child of God by your faith in Jesus Christ, then you have a mission—thus you are a missionary.  Our mission has been spelled out clearly by our leader: “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’” (Matthew 28:18-19).  The Apostle Paul gave his life to complete this mission, just as millions of other Christ followers have.  Paul was asking for prayer in our printed key verse for today.  The cry of his heart was that he might proclaim the Good News clearly.  Let’s determine to make that our prayer as well.

Father, grant me courage and your wisdom that I might know how to answer everyone about the hope I have in you!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
