He carries the heavy burden and gives us a light burden to carry!

Myths about Missionaries
We Carry Heavy Burdens

Scripture Reading: Colossians 4:1-6

Key Verse: Colossians 4:3

And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.

In the next few days we are going to look at several myths about missionaries.  In other words, there are some incorrect assumptions about us who have accepted Jesus and His mission.   These incorrect assumptions may be held by others as they judge our lives.  Sometimes we accept some assumptions that are not biblical and need to purge our thinking of these myths.

Today we read in the Apostle Paul’s writings to the Colossian Christ followers that God opens doors for our mission.  He requests these followers to “pray that God may open a door for our message.”  The apostle knew that he did not need to carry the heavy burden for God’s mission all by himself.  First, he was not so proud that he refused to ask for help from God’s children.  Paul requested prayer for his mission.  Secondly, we see that Paul understood that getting an opportunity to share his faith was something God had to create.  Our responsibility is to simply walk through the “doors” that God creates and makes clear to us.

If you are a Christ follower, you are a missionary on a mission for Christ and His kingdom.  However, you do not walk this road alone.  God has deemed to be a divine partner with us.  He carries the heavy burden and gives as a light burden to carry!  (Matthew 11:30).

Father, I accept my responsibility to walk in the light, following your nudges.  Thank you for carrying the heavy loads!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
