Mission: Impossible
The Mission – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Luke 5:17-26
Key Verse: Luke 5:19
When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
Yesterday’s devotional described our mission. Today we will look at an example of completing our mission. Jesus had re-entered Capernaum to teach more about His kingdom. Religious experts and teachers of the Jewish law had followed Him. Many others from the surrounding area had come to hear and see the “miracle worker.”
Four men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They had traveled a distance to bring this man to Jesus. He could have never made the trip on his own. When this group got to the place where Jesus was teaching, they couldn’t get close because of the crowd. Possibly, one of the men spoke up and suggested that they might as well take the paralyzed man back to his home. A creative thinking member of this group came up with the idea of taking the man on the roof and lowering him down with ropes. The group agreed and off they went to complete their mission: Get this man to Jesus.
When we decide to be an active team member in completing our God-given mission, we will run into obstacles. The forces of evil will make sure that accomplishing our mission is a battle. We will need to be creative and persistent if we plan to complete our mission. Our methods will be constantly changing according to the situation we find ourselves in. In all situations, the message never changes: Jesus saves.
Father, whatever obstacles come up today, I will trust your wisdom and creativity in me to overcome and complete the mission. In Jesus’ name, amen.
