Preparing for the Charge
Corrosion – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:25-32
Key Verse: Ephesians 4:31
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
If you go to a website to find instructions for jump starting your car, the instructions will tell you to clean off all the corrosion around the battery terminals. This corrosion will build up until your battery can no longer take a charge.
If we are going to jump start our spiritual batteries, we must take a look at the corrosion that may have accumulated in our lives. Until we clean up that corrosion, we will not be able to recharge our spiritual lives. The Apostle Paul puts it like this: “Get rid of…”! There are things in our walk with God that are unacceptable to God and we must work hard to eliminate them from our lives. These same issues can slowly re-invade our lives during times that we let down our guard, like the summer break time. Paul describes this situation as giving the “devil a foothold” (vs. 27).
The thing about our spiritual corrosion that we must note is: It often is not as obvious as the corrosion on our car batteries. We only have to lift our car’s hood to see battery corrosion. If we want to examine our spiritual corrosion, we may have to look deep within our hearts. The Prophet Jeremiah warns us that the heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah17:9). It takes complete openness and honesty to get to the truth. (Continued)
Father, I will need your help to get rid of any corrosion that is surrounding my soul. Grant me your courage and wisdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Wow, this was just what I needed laid on me, right at this moment.
Thank you Pastor Walls!
