Taking Time to Recharge
Praise That Pleases – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 69:31-36

I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

It takes time to recharge a battery.  Trying to rush that process only leaves us with a battery that won’t last.  So it is with our spiritual life.  It takes time to recharge.  We must put our lives in park and turn off other distractions that drain our focus.  We have been talking about waiting before the Lord.  Today, in Psalm 69, David talks about praise.  Under the direction and inspiration of God, he writes that praising the Lord is what pleases the Lord (verse 31).

            Start your recharging time with praise.  Too often we start our prayer time with our requests.  David reminds us in this Psalm that we bring a smile to God’s face when we start with praise!  When David says that praise pleases God more than oxen and bulls, he is referring to the sacrifices at the altar that were common in their worship.  In other words, for us it is saying praise is more pleasing than our disciplines that we feel are so important to please God.  These disciplines may be needed, but it is our praises that truly bless God.

            David started with praising God’s name in song.  Find time today to sing a song to God; a song of praise.  If it helps, use a worship CD that you can sing along with.  As you do, I believe your spiritual battery will be recharged.  Start each day with “glorifying Him with thanksgiving.”

Father, you are worthy of all my praise.  Every good thing in my life is from your hand.  I will give you all the glory!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
