Are you finding rest in God alone. This will heal your emotions of fear and anxieties

Taking Time to Recharge
Wait Quietly – Part 2

Scripture Reading: Psalm 62:1-6

Key Verse: Psalm 62:1

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.

The New International Version gives us another thought to this verse: My soul finds rest in God.  This gives us another benefit to learning to wait quietly before God—rest in our souls.  In the summer most people think of vacations to rest from work.  Our bodies need this break from the daily grind of our jobs.  This recreation (re-creation) of our bodies is needed.  Our souls need a break from the noisy world around us.  The recreation of the soul is found in quietness.

Are you finding rest in God alone?  This rest is not physical; it is for our inner being.  First we need rest for our minds.  When we get quiet, we rest our minds.  We cease thinking about what to say to God and simply wait to hear from God.  Secondly, we need to find rest for our emotions.  Life can stress us out.  Too much stress and not enough breaks from stress will wreck us.  Find rest from stress by creating moments in your schedule to simply be quiet.  This will heal your other emotions, such as fear and anxieties.  Get quiet…let your fears go and rest in the Lord.  As the Psalmist David wrote: “He is my rock and salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken” (verse 2).  Let’s heed the challenge David gives in verse 5 – “Find rest…in God alone”!

Father, I am tired of fighting the mental and emotional battles of my life.  I will seek rest in you alone!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
