Finding the Power
Deserting the Faith

Scripture Reading:  Galatians 1:7-10

Key Verse: Galatians 1:6

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel

The context of today’s scripture is the Apostle Paul scolding the Galatian Christ followers who were heading down a wrong path.  These Christ followers had a good beginning in their journey with Christ, but were allowing voices from Judaism to sway them back to the Law.  Paul said that this situation astonished him.  He was struggling to understand why they would turn away from the One who had died to set them free.  The apostle used the word deserting to describe their actions.  The Greek word “apo” literally means any kind of separation in which a union or fellowship is destroyed.  They were allowing outside influences to separate them from their union with Christ.

As we speak of jumpstarting our walk with Christ this month, it is directed at anyone who is starting down the path that ends in desertion.  If you have allowed any outside forces to distract you from Jesus Christ, you are heading down the wrong path.  Desertion does not happen in a moment of time, it is the final result of too much neglect over a period of time.  You may still feel you believe in Jesus but simply have lost a deep passion for Him and His kingdom.  Those who don’t stop that direction in their life may ultimately lose their belief in who Jesus is.  Have you sensed a diminishing of your passion for Jesus?  If so, line up your spiritual battery with His and get a jumpstart!

Father, thank you for your watch care over me.  Examine my heart and see if there is any area that needs attention.  I ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.
