Finding the Power
You Will Receive – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Acts 1:1-7
Key Verse: Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
As we continue our thoughts from yesterday, I want to return to the illustration of the “Books for Dummies.” If there was a book entitled: “Jumpstarting Cars for Dummies,” its first chapter might include: Search for the battery. If you can’t get a car started, searching for the battery would be one of the first things to do. This book might challenge the reader to make sure there is a battery, in the first place. If there is a battery, what kind of shape is it in?
This is a good place for us to begin our thoughts on a spiritual jumpstart: Is there a source of power in your life? Do you know that you have asked Jesus into your life? Have you asked Him to forgive you of all your sins? Have you ever operated your journey with God in a “personal relationship” kind of way? The first thing every person needs is a spiritual “battery” which is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is this relationship that provides the power for living.
After establishing a personal relationship with Christ, we must focus on maintaining it. What shape is your battery in as you start this fall? Have you maintained a high level of power and contact with God’s Spirit this summer? If you were honest, have you neglected your spiritual walk and sensed a loss of power? Do you need a jumpstart?
Father, refresh my heart and mind with your power for today! I want to walk worthy of you and share your love with those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
