Don’t expect to feel strong, but do expect to be strong in the Lord today

Finding the Power
You Will Receive – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Acts 1:1-7

Key Verse: Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

I was looking at the number of “Books for Dummies” that the market has been flooded with: Knitting for Dummies, Spanish for Dummies, Home buying for Dummies, Organizing for Dummies, and the list goes on and on!  These books were written, not to insult anybody’s intelligence, but to help people get started with subjects that they are totally unfamiliar with.  These books try to put things so clearly that anyone can understand the material.

This month’s theme is built around a similar concept.  We could have titled this month’s theme: “Spiritual Jumpstarts for Dummies.”  After the summer break many Christ followers find themselves needing a jumpstart to their spiritual lives.  With vacations and kids at home, it is easy to let some disciplines slip that all of us need to reinstate.

In these first 10 days of September, let’s look at our power levels.  Jesus’ plan for His followers was to have us powered up and ready to serve.  God’s power is a power not particularly felt but experienced.  Jesus used the wind as an illustration of God’s power moving among us.  We cannot see the wind but we certainly do experience it.  Don’t expect to feel strong, but do expect to be strong in the Lord today!  Whatever you are facing, face it with confidence that power will come on you.

Father, I am grateful for your power that is available to me.  Help me to open my heart to allow your work in me.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
