The Calling

Scripture Reading:  Ephesians 5:2-7

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

This month we have been describing a Life Path for Christ followers.  It all starts with an unbeliever pursuing truth.  If a person will pursue truth, they will find Jesus.  If they take the next step, they embrace Jesus as their personal Savior.  The third step is to advance their faith.  It won’t be long, as they are advancing their knowledge, that they will be confronted with the fourth step in the Life Path: contribute.

            The Apostle Paul describes this as a calling.  Our printed key verse challenges every believer to live a life worthy of the “calling.”  In verse seven Paul continues that thought with the fact that every child of God has received a special “grace” as Christ apportioned it.  Every person who steps into God’s family is given a gift to contribute to God’s family.  This is how God’s family, the church, is to operate in this world.  God knows what is needed for every body of believers and has already given special abilities to those members to meet those needs.

            This Life Path we have been describing continues to grow and gain energy as a person contributes his part of the equation.  In other words, it is more blessed to give than receive, thus the contributor gains spiritual energy and strength as they contribute.  As we give of our talents and resources, God refreshes us with new supplies.

Father, open my eyes to the gift you have put inside me.  I will use it to your good and glory.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
