Hunger and Thirst
Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:1-12
Key Verse: Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Think of a time when you felt real hunger or real thirst. At that point you craved food and a cold drink of water. When we get to this point, we can’t really concentrate on anything else; we just want some food and a drink!
Jesus looked at the crowd one day and declared, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…” In other words, if anyone comes to the point that all they can think about is how to live for God, they are blessed. God looks into each of our hearts and sees our deep desires and motivations. When He sees that we truly long to be pleasing to Him in all our ways, He will fulfill that desire.
The Life Path that everyone must take in order to find the abundant life promised in the Bible, is to seek God and ultimately embrace Jesus. When any person comes to this point, they are hungry for a right relationship with God through Christ. The Apostle Paul prays for the Philippi church that their “love might abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight” (Philippians1:9).
Have you come to this point in your spiritual journey? Are you ready to embrace Christ and all His teachings, making them yours?
Father, I want to grow deeper in your ways; I want to embrace every truth that is from your wisdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
