Embrace
Accept It – Part 3
Scripture Reading: Mark 4:13-20
Key Verse: Mark 4:20
Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop–thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”
Part three of this “accept it” theme is where Jesus concludes His parable. As a master teacher, Jesus was using a common experience for a divine truth. The farmers of that culture throwing seeds to plant their fields was a common sight for all who lived in that day. Not all seeds thrown would come to full growth, as we have talked about in the last two devotionals. However, according to Jesus, the seeds that found “good” soil would produce a crop thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.
Those who believe the teachings of Jesus and embrace them for their life will live very fruitfully! For the rest of their life their lifestyle and words will witness to the transformation Jesus’ teachings bring to good soil! The all important question then is what would be considered good soil to reap such a lifelong harvest?
Good soil, first of all, hears the Word. The Greek word used indicates a true comprehension of the truth. If the words of Jesus are going to produce the desired effect, we must be careful listeners. Secondly, Jesus said “good soil” accepts the Word—receives it as one’s own. God’s Word must become our word of instruction and rule of life! Good soil allows God’s Word to change the way they think and act. When this happens, our life is full of purpose and fruit!
Father, I want my life to represent good soil. Help me to hear and accept the Word today in a transforming way! In Jesus’ name, amen.
