Embrace
Accept It – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Mark 4:13-20
Key Verse: Mark 4:20
Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop–thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”
The Life Path that we have been discussing begins with a sincere pursuit of God. The next step in the Life Path is to embrace the truth that they discover. A person who is at this place in the Life Path gladly avails themselves of the gift that God offers them. To embrace something, one opens up to it; includes it in their hearts and minds.
Jesus told a parable about a farmer that went out to his fields to scatter seed. In their day, they did this by hand, throwing the seed in all directions. This method would inevitably end up with some seed landing on walking paths that were along the farmer’s fields. Some seed would also land on rocky places and thorny bushes that were close by the field. Jesus took this well known scenario and turned it into a teaching moment about the kingdom of God.
This story and the verses that follow it clearly let us know that Jesus wanted us to let our light shine so sinners would desire to embrace Him. This process is “throwing the seed.” Our life throws out the seeds of the kingdom by living the truths out in our daily lives. As we remain in close contact with Him, we will be fruitful (John 15:5). The question for this week is: Who will accept the seed and embrace it? (Continued)
Father, let your kingdom come in me today. Let it shine brightly in all I do and say! May others see you in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
