Pursue Him
Craving Him
Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:28-34
Key Verse: Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Most of us are familiar with our printed key verse that encourages us to seek first the kingdom of heaven. The Greek word used for “seek” is zetco, which literally means to crave something. Maybe you have experienced cravings when you had not eaten for a while. When you crave something, it is all you can think about; you must have it!
Jesus told His followers that they should crave God and His kingdom more than the things of this earth. If they would they would receive not only the kingdom but the things needed for this earthly existence as well! Unfortunately, we tend to crave the things of this world and simply hope we get to go to heaven when we leave this life.
The New Testament makes it clear, all journeys with God begin with pursuit of Him! All journeys with God are continually maintained by pursuit of Him! God is worthy of our cravings! The things of this world are not worthy and only leave us hungry for more. This begs the question: Whom are you seeking…craving? Not sure? Take a look at your daily routines. They will reveal what you are truly craving. Take a look at your checkbook; it is another big indicator of whom you are craving! Let Jesus’ words sink in. Seek (crave) first the kingdom of God.
Father, give me your Spirit of discernment that I might set my priorities in accordance with your kingdom’s values. In Jesus’ name, amen.
