More good news: God rewards those who earnestly seek Him

Pursue Him
The Reward

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:1-5

Key Verse: Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

When anyone walks into our church who is far from God, they are probably at church because of a hurt or pain in their life.  Those who live outside God’s grace don’t normally have a desire to be in a church without a really good reason!  When they do come, they usually have a brokenness going on in their life.  A marriage is in trouble or a child has gone wayward.  Possibly the loss of a good job might influence a person to seek out a church.  Everyone wants a good life and when it isn’t good, we tend to go find a fix!

When this happens our church wants to encourage a sincere search—pursuing of truth.  We know that a quick emotional decision for Christ can end up with a quick exit out the back door.  It is good to see a person slowly searching for God’s help—for His peace.

When I see this happen, I am so encouraged because I remember God’s promise in our printed key verse for today: He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.  Rather than push people to make a quick decision for Christ, I encourage them to keep seeking truth and keep their hearts open to God’s whispers.  God will confirm truth and can convince people that His way is the best way, far better than I can!

Father, continue to reward those who are sincerely seeking the truth about you.  Bring about a fully devoted follower!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
