Why Holy Matters
New is Coming
Scripture Reading: Revelation 21:1-4
Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:13
But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.
The why question when it comes to holy living has both a negative and positive answer. Yesterday I mentioned the negative in that this earth is headed for destruction. If we do not learn to live holy lives, we will never see the Lord, spending eternity separated from God.
In today’s printed key verse, we get the positive side of the why question. If we learn to live a holy life, we look forward to a new heaven and a new earth. Peter reminds us that God is creating these new places as the “home of the righteous.” These are tremendous thoughts to motivate us in our godly lifestyle.
I have always believed, but the Bible does not go into this detail, that the new earth will look very similar to the earth we know. I believe that because I do not think God can improve on Himself. I think he made the perfect earth the first time. From these facts, I deduce that the new earth will look the same, without the sinful stain and all its effects. If I am right, think of the beauty and joy of walking on this new earth! Think of the life God is planning for us. How wonderful will this life be without the hindrances of sin and the evil tempter? To walk the earth and never grow old nor experience sickness will be a glorious existence. I want to make it. How about you?
Father, thank you for preparing a place to reward my efforts to walk worthy of you! Thank you for your spirit in me to help me live holy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
