God is looking for a holy people and demands holiness for all who want to spend eternity with Him.

Why Holy Matters
The End in View

Scripture Reading:  2 Peter 3:10-13

Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:11

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives

The question the Apostle Peter asked in our printed key verse for today is one of the most important questions we will ever consider!  If you believe the Bible and its description of the end times, then the question, “What kind of person ought you to be?” is critical.  Of course, the answer does not matter if the Bible is false and we all die without hope of a life after this one.

For us who believe in the absolute truth of the Bible, we want to keep the “end in view!”  We want to answer that all-important question that Peter first proposed.  Since our present heavens will someday disappear and our earth will be destroyed by fire, what will God be looking for in His follower?  How can I know that I am going to spend eternity with God and avoid the punishment of the ungodly?

In our human understanding, we might come up with a variety of answers, but, thankfully, the Apostle Peter wasted no time in giving us the answer: We ought to live holy and godly lives.  God is looking for a holy people and demands holiness for all who want to spend eternity with Him.  Hebrews 12:14 says it as clear as possible: “Without holiness, no one will see the Lord.”

This month we will be studying this important subject of holiness.  If we can keep the “why” clear in our heads, it will motivate us to discipline our lives to live holy and godly lives.  Let’s determine to live with the end in view.

Father, I am grateful that you have clearly warned us of the end times and what they will look like.  Help me to live a life worthy of you today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
