Authentic Leaders Are Flawed
Press On
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, Revelation 3:21
Key Verse: Philippians 3:14
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Because of our flawed nature, there is great tension in our walk with God in this world. The Apostle Paul said that though he was not perfect, he pressed on toward the goal. The Greek word he used for “press” was “dioko,” which has a literal meaning of running after something and earnestly endeavoring to acquire something. Paul is reminding us that it takes effort to walk a life that is worthy of the Lord.
Are you running after God and a lifestyle that is worthy of Him? In other words, is there a real effort—an exertion of energy, time and resources to become more like Him? Authentic leaders understand they are flawed and that it will not be easy to be a positive influence on others! If we get casual about it, letting down our guard, we will allow our flesh to take over in stressful situations. When that happens, when our spirit takes a back seat to our flesh, our influence goes negative!
The word for today is “press”! Press on in your efforts to live by the principles of God’s Word. Press on in your efforts to keep in step with the Spirit of God in you! Press on in your fight against your flawed nature that wants to diminish your light in this dark world. Remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:16, “…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Father, I will press on today in order to fight my fleshly nature that would grieve you. Please shine through me and be glorified. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
