Delight in Being with Him
Delight in the Lord – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 37:1-7

Key Verse:  Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

I hope you can spend some time reading the first seven verses of Psalm 37.  The Psalmist wants to help God’s children live in a way that delights in the Lord.  We can’t always delight in life’s circumstances.  Bad things happen, and they happen to both the good and the bad, but we can fill our minds with these truths to such a degree that we can live delighting always in the Lord!

The first step in delighting in the Lord is to not be fooled by those who delight in the world.  They may seem successful and happy, but “like the grass they will soon wither” (verse 2).  Their judgment is coming, so don’t be fooled by their short term good fortune.

The next step in delighting is found in the word trust.  Our minds can easily focus on our own successes and failures, rather than what Jesus has accomplished for us!  Our flesh, as well as the evil one, will push us to focus on our problems.  We must resist doing that and focus on our Savior and His power.  His Word has promised us that all things will work toward our good!  (See Romans 8:28).  Can you trust God and His Word today?  If you can trust, you can delight in the Lord!  We are told in the book of James that if we doubt when we pray we should not think that we will receive anything from the Lord (James 1:6-7).  Put your trust in the Lord!

Father, I know I can trust you.  Your words are true and your promises never fail!  I will delight in you and not doubt!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
