Delight in Being with Him
Delighting in Peace
Scripture Reading: John 14:25-27
Key Verse: Numbers 6:26
the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
When we identify things as our source of peace, we have allowed ourselves to be lied to. In other words, if you don’t have peace because you think you need more money, for example, you have assigned money as your source of peace! In a real sense, your delight is in money!
Jesus wants to be our source of peace no matter what comes our way in this world. Jesus made this very clear when He declared: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). Interestingly, Jesus tells us to “not let” our hearts be troubled. Do you allow your heart and mind to focus on your problems until you are full of anxiety? Jesus knows we must deal with our problems, doing what we can do in solving them. However, after we have done all we can do, we must refuse to allow our hearts to be troubled.
When you are tempted to be fearful or troubled, repeat these words: “I will delight in the Lord.” Keep repeating that phrase until you have stopped the flow of doubt and fear from saturating your mind. Even as we pray, we can allow our prayers to be more about our fears than our faith. The Apostle Paul reminds us to present our requests to God with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6).
Father, I am grateful that I truly have nothing to fear. Help me to live today with that confidence that comes from delighting in you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
