Delight in Being with Him
The Source of Delight – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Numbers 6:22-27
Key Verse: Numbers 6:22-23
The Lord said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites.
The scripture passage for today is a benediction that is often used in liturgical churches to close a worship service, but it was meant to have much more meaning to God’s people than the last thought of a service. It was given to bless God’s children. To bless someone is to confer prosperity or happiness upon them. In this case, it was to invoke divine care by God on His people
Before further study of the body of this blessing, I want to note its origin. I feel blessed just to read these words: “The Lord said to Moses.” This blessing was God’s idea! God told Moses these words and that He would back them up with action. When God said: “This is how you are to bless the Israelites,” He was telling Moses that this blessing was more than a closing in some liturgy book! It would invoke action on God’s part to bring upon His people divine care that would not be there if Moses did not teach the priests to say this blessing over the people.
Do you go to God in prayer with the understanding that He loves to bless you? Do you see God as some stern judge that you must appease before you can receive anything from him? Your attitude toward God will determine your joy in God. The theme this last week is to “Delight in Being with God.” If that is going to happen, you must see God as the One who wants to bless you!
Father, I look forward to your fresh compassions and mercies today! I am so grateful for your desire to bless me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
