Deepen Your Talk with Him
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 4:14-16
Key Verse: Hebrews 4:16
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
In order to go to the deepest levels of any relationship, we must feel safe. If a spouse does not create a safe environment, the spouse does not feel they can develop deep levels of intimacy. If our homes aren’t safe—emotionally or physically—our children will never open up to us.
So it is with God, we must feel safe to open up to Him if we are going to go deep with Him. Our printed key verse for today tells us we can approach God with confidence. In verse 15, the Hebrew writer explains that we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, rather we have one who has been tempted in all ways, yet without sin.
We can feel safe to open up our lives, our deepest secrets, to our heavenly Father. Jesus walked the earth in the flesh and faced every temptation that we do. We can open up to Him about those behaviors that have caused us shame. He understands. He has been there and experienced that pull on the flesh. This does not mean Jesus condones sinful behavior. It means we have a high priest in Jesus who intercedes for us (Romans 8:34). Go deep with God in your prayer life. Open up those areas that are lurking in the shadows. This is our first step toward true intimacy!
Father, I choose to trust you and totally open up to you. Thank you for loving and caring for me, just as I am. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
