A Meeting Place
An Upstairs Room
Scripture Reading: Daniel 6:6-22
Key Verse: Daniel 6:10
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
Daniel and the lion’s den is a story from the Bible that most of us have enjoyed since we were kids. The victory in the den came from the prayer in the upstairs room. In verse 10 we are told that Daniel had a room in the upstairs part of his house that he made his place of prayer. Long before the crisis of chapter six exploded on Daniel’s life, Daniel had practiced daily prayers from his upstairs room.
Do you have a room—a place that has been your place to pray? When we find a place and daily talk to God from that place, we are prepared for the crises of life. It does not mean that we enjoy going through these crises, but it does mean we can keep our peace and faith in them. Life is full of trouble with sporadic periods of good times. Whether we are Christ followers or pagans, we face regular periods of stressful challenges, as well as times of calm. As the scripture reminds us, the rain falls on the righteous and the unrighteous.
I’m sure Daniel would have voted not to be thrown into the den of lions, but after he experienced the miracle of his God closing their mouths, he became a great witness to the king and the entire nation. God has a purpose behind the troubles you may be experiencing. Find your place of prayer and pray!
Father, I praise you for your mighty power that rules over this universe. I will trust your ways and purposes for my life today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
