Determine to Meet with Him
Make a Way to Pray
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 4:1-6
Key Verse: 1 Peter 4:7
The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
Peter believed that the end of time here on earth was near. In God’s timing he was probably right—since a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. Peter pleaded with his readers to be “clear-minded and self-controlled so that you can pray”! Peter understood the essential need for God’s children to pray. He also understood that there were things that make prayer more difficult. When our minds are cluttered with worldly concerns and we are living with uncontrolled cravings in our lives, prayer is nearly impossible!
We must all realize that we don’t know when the end will come, but it is coming! This world will not continue forever, and certainly your life will not continue on this earth forever! With this serious deadline considered, shouldn’t you be a person of prayer? Why not be determined to create a time and place for prayer—and pray!
As Peter said, we must be clear-minded and self-controlled if we are going to be prayers! We must slow down our lives—clear our calendars—enough to create time for God. It takes self-control to pray. For some reason, it is never easy to stay consistent in prayer, but we must get control of ourselves and our schedules, making room for the eternal rather than only the immediate! We must make a way to pray!
Father, forgive me when I think I’m too busy to pray. I will determine to create a time for us to talk! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
