Second Will Be First
An Anxious Mind – Part 1
Scripture Reading: John 14:2-14
Key Verse: John 14:1
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
This week’s theme reminds us that those who choose to be second will one day be first. In other words, we Christ followers must trust delayed gratification. This world and its pleasures are not what we live for. We are living for a world that has no sun, other than Jesus who will be all the Light needed for our new world.
Jesus told us in our printed key verse for today not to let our hearts be troubled. The Greek word used for trouble was tarasso. Its literal meaning is: to render anxious or distressed; to cause one inward commotion, take away his calmness of mind. That is what this world does to us: it takes away our calmness of mind. The troubles of this life can cause us to live with anxious minds—to be distressed.
Jesus understood what this world would do to us and provided an antidote to this trouble. He wanted us not to forget what is ahead. He asked us to trust God the Father and Himself. He told us to keep our eyes of faith on the eternal prize being prepared for the faithful. Jesus promised that He would come back for us and take us where He has been.
When you start getting an anxious mind, turn your thoughts to your heavenly Father and lean heavy on His love. Do not let your heart be troubled. The second will be first!
Father, I don’t know all that I will face today but I know that you have all of it under control. I will not let my heart be troubled. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
