People who try to get to heaven other than through Jesus are not bad people, but they are wrong.

The Path to Second
The Only Path

Scripture Reading:  John 14:1-12

Key Verse:  John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Our world wishes Jesus had not been so radical—so extremely black and white.  People don’t mind a Jesus that would start another religion.  Most don’t get angry about 90% of Jesus’ teachings, but Jesus took it too far for our world when He took the path of exclusivity.  He is the only way!  The moment Jesus proclaimed that no person would get to the heavenly Father except through Him, He crossed the line.

But Jesus didn’t come to start one more religion.  Jesus wanted all people everywhere to enter into a relationship with the Father.  He came to clear the path to that daily work with God.  Jesus said, “I am the way!”  The Greek word He used was “hodos,” which metaphorically means a “course of conduct” or a way of thinking, feeling or deciding.  Jesus’ opponents even referred to Jesus and His new followers as people of THE WAY.

Jesus proclaimed that He was the truth.  All other paths were false.  People who try to get to heaven other than through Jesus are not bad people, but they are wrong.  Our lives must shine so that they see the truth!  Jesus also said that He was life!  Life that is real and genuine; active and devoted to God.  The life that would last forever!  We must not water down Jesus’ words: No one goes to the Father except through Jesus.

Father, I accept your Son as the only path for my salvation.  I praise you for providing me with this way, truth and eternal life!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  1. Great thought for the day – If only we could again today be labeled as people of THE WAY. The way of self-sacrificial love. May this Easter weekend be marked with a renewal of the reality of God’s love for us so that we will be compelled to this WAY of self-sacrifice.
