The Path to Second
The Way

Scripture Reading:  John 17:1-8

Key Verse:  John 17:3

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

These next few days we are going to study the path—the avenue—to arriving at “second.”  This question needs to be answered:  How do we arrive at second?  Remember that “second” means that Jesus is first in our lives.  It means that all His teaching and His example of serving others becomes our model for living life!  We must reject the worldly model set before us each day that says “I am first”!

            The way—the path—starts and finishes with Jesus.  There is no other way to arrive at this goal.  A person may look the part and even act the part enough to fool onlookers, but God sees the heart.  Only those who have received the life of Jesus can truly live the life of Jesus.  We will be examining other paths that people try to take during these next few devotionals.  All of these other paths lead to pride and destruction.

            Under the inspiration of God’s Holy Spirit John wrote, He gives eternal life to each one that knows and receives God’s son Jesus Christ.  These, Jesus said, believe that God sent Jesus to this world to redeem it from the evil one (see John 17:8).  Are you on the right path?  Do you believe Jesus is the only true way to heaven and eternal life?
