Let the inner feelings of worry and stress fade away, as you lean heavy on the peace of God.

God’s Provisions:
Provisions for Rest – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 11:29-30

Key Verse: Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Yesterday’s devotional reminded us that Jesus wants to relieve us of the worried and stressful feelings in our souls.  He invites us to come to Him, everyone of us who are weary and burdened.  Is that you today?  Have you allowed the problems of your life to drain you of divine energy?  Jesus invites you to find rest.  This is not a promise for a trouble-free life.  It is a promise for a calm, restful soul as you deal with the problems of your life!

To find this rest, we first come to Him by believing in Him and trusting in His words to us.  Secondly, we take on His yoke and learn from Him.  In other words, we are to stay in step with His Spirit that He will put within us when we believe.  In Jesus’ day, a yoke was put on oxen to keep them moving together in sync.  If one got out of step, the yoke would rub them wrong until they got back in step.  Jesus wants us to shed the yoke or patterns of the world and take on His yoke or patterns of behavior.  It is at this point that we deal with problems in a gentle and humble way—confident of God’s help!  The inner feelings of worry and stress fade away and suddenly we sense a peace—a rest in our souls!  This promised abundant life takes hold within.  We now can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).

Father, at every problem today I am going to rely on you and rest in your promised help.  Thank you for taking my heavy burdens!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
