God’s Covenant:
We Can Do It
Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 30:12-20
Key Verse: Deuteronomy 30:11
Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.
Many seem to think that living for God is too difficult. They believe that God asks too much of us and the lifestyle is too restrictive. God has evaluated us far too carefully to ask of us something that we can’t do. Our Creator knows exactly what we can accomplish and what would be too much to ask.
As Moses led God’s people, possibly they were saying similar things about God. Moses addresses the issue in our scripture for today. He reminds God’s people that the instructions were not too difficult for them or beyond their reach! In verse 14 Moses concludes: “No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so that you may obey it.”
How much more is this true of each of us? We have the Holy Spirit of God living in us. He is our helper and continually reminds us of God’s instructions for life. No, God’s covenant is not too burdensome for anyone. We can all enter into the covenant that has been freely offered to us. If you think about the results of the lifestyle without God, it would be evident that that lifestyle is very burdensome! Those outside the covenant face this world without help or hope! Enter into God’s covenant and joyfully do your part!
Father, thank you for your strength and help for the daily life you have called me to live. I will live it in obedience to you! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
