God’s Call:
Our Circumstances – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Genesis 12:4-5
Key Verse: Genesis 12:3
I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
As we continue to study the call upon our lives, we must realize that God’s equipping process starts in the circumstances surrounding us. We are normally unaware of these early preparations that God is so good at. In Abraham’s life, his call came when he was 75 years old. I believe God used the early years of his life to prepare Abraham for that moment when God said, “It’s time.”
Please note, in our scripture reading for today, that verse five reminds us that Abraham had accumulated a lot of material things, as well as people that he hired to serve him and his wife Sarah. He took all these with him as he was obedient to the call of God. In starting this new nation of God, it would take more than just Abraham and Sarah. When someone moves away from his country, his people, and his father’s household, he loses all of his support systems. God waited until Abram had developed a clan that could be self supporting before calling Abraham to a new nation.
As you investigate where God may be working in your life, don’t overlook the circumstances of your life. Look back over the years to see the people in your life and the events that have taken place. Look at the way life has unfolded—both good and bad. God can be in all these things, working to equip us for the mission that He deems best for us. God is preparing you for your future!
Father, thank you for the work you have already been doing to prepare me for the calling on my life. I’ll follow as you lead. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
