God’s Call:
The Call – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Genesis 12:1-7
Key Verse: Genesis 12:1
The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.
Why did Abraham get picked by God to lead the nation God had in mind? Why didn’t God choose one of Abraham’s two brothers? Why didn’t God choose Terah, Abraham’s father? No one knows all the reasons behind this divine decision. At the appointed time and on the appointed person, God’s hand moved on the people of the earth.
Very few of us will be selected for such a dramatic role as Abraham received, but God still calls us to set out and follow Him. The whys and the when’s we must leave to the wisdom of our all-knowing God. Our focus must be on hearing God’s call and being obedient to that call. I’m convinced that from heaven’s perspective, every call of God is equally significant! Each call has a purpose that God sees as needing to be accomplished. Who are we to judge one call more important than another? If it is God calling, that makes it important for us to consider.
Let’s look again at the phrase: God’s call flows out of God’s grace. This reminds you and me that we don’t earn God’s selection. The word grace must remind us that God moves in ways that we don’t earn. In other words, it is not all about us. We should all be surprised and amazed at being chosen to serve the King of Kings! Full obedience is the only appropriate response to His call!
Father, thank you for choosing to use me in your plans. Please open my eyes to see each step and grant me the courage to follow. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
