When to Trust My Feelings:
Do Not Conform – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Romans 12:1-8
Key Verse: Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Let’s continue our thoughts from yesterday by focusing on the word “allow.” As we saw yesterday, we must allow God the freedom to work in us. When we do, then we can trust the feelings that we feel! Remember Paul’s words in Philippians 2:13 – “For God is working in you, giving you the desires and the power to do what pleases Him” (NLT). But this verse can only be true in the person who has continually presented his or her body as a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1).
Let’s get real practical. To be able to trust your feelings, you must have a daily conversation with God. You must daily surrender to Him, committing to Him your best effort to please Him and Him alone! You must be ready to grieve in your flesh, if needed, in order that your flesh doesn’t grieve God’s Spirit within you! Please note that Romans 12:1 ends with these words: “This is your spiritual act of worship.” When you present your body to God and know there is nothing you are holding back, you have truly become a worshipper! But if there are “favorite” sins that you’ve refused to give up, don’t bother singing songs on Sunday, pretending to be a worshipper!
Will you determine right now that God gets all of you today? Will you willingly allow wants to go wanting, if they don’t conform to God’s will for your life?
Father, I will not allow you to grieve over any willful behavior in me today! I am yours and yours alone! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
