God’s Focus on Feelings:
God’s Part – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:9-16
Key Verse: Philippians 2:13
for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
Yesterday we started this study of when God is in our feelings. We determined that, indeed, God works in our desires. We must remind ourselves that some of our feelings are not our own, they are within us because God put them within us!
For every believer who is prayerfully and sincerely walking close to God through a daily faith in Jesus, they have a sanctified “wanter!” By that I mean they can trust the consistent desires of their heart as direction from God. I realize that, at times, believers put too much trust in how they feel and what they want. This calls for spiritual discernment as we walk with the Lord. The apostle understood that when he wrote in the verse right before our key verse: “…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12). He is calling for caution and careful evaluation over all the decisions of our lives.
Using all the caution that the apostle calls for, I believe we can follow our passions. Passions are not fleeting feelings that come and then pass quickly. What feelings stay in you? What is consistently a desire of your heart? God will often give us the desires of our heart because He put the desires there in the first place! If you honestly evaluate what passions have been in your heart for a long time, as well as their godly nature, you will undoubtedly find the purpose of your life as God designed it!
Father, thank you for your work in me. Grant me wisdom and honesty as I evaluate your will and purpose for my days. I ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
