The Divine in Our Design:
Feelings of Anger – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:25-32
Key Verse: Ephesians 4:26
“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry
Let’s pick up where we left off our discussion yesterday. We must pour our full energies into controlling the expressions of anger. Our scripture is telling us that it is in the expressions of anger that we sin, not simply feeling the feelings of anger.
To keep a high level of energy in this battle we must not shame ourselves because we feel angry at someone or something. The enemy of our souls uses shame and condemnation to drain us of energy for the good we need to do! God’s Word reminds us that as Christ followers, born of God’s Spirit, we are done with condemnation (Romans 8:1). If you allow yourself to feel condemnation over anything, you are allowing the devil to rob you of the gift God has given you through Jesus Christ: Freedom from shame and condemnation. We must reject those feelings by quoting Romans 8:1 in the devil’s face every single time he tries to lay his lies on you!
Once we learn to maintain the high energy we should have in Christ, now we need to deal with our anger feelings. When we sense that tense feelings are building up within us, we need a plan to eliminate them. This plan may include physically excusing yourself from the conversation and/or situation. You may need to pick the issue back up later, once your anger emotions have been subdued! We will look at more anger management techniques tomorrow.
Father, I know you have the wisdom of the universe. I ask for portions of the wisdom as I deal with my feelings. I ask it in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
