Power of the Key Story:
Be Prepared – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 3:9-17
Key Verse: 1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect
As we continue with yesterday’s theme we see that the apostle tells us to be prepared or ready to give a reason for anyone who asks why we are hopeful. The Greek word for “ready or prepared” is heroimos and indicates action; to do something. In other words, if we are to be ready, we have to take some action.
I believe one thing that all of us should do is write out a one page testimony. As Peter says, we should give a “reason for our hope.” Your brief one page testimony would include a paragraph about your hopeless days. A good testimony gives a brief sketch of your life before you came to Jesus. This should not be a graphic description of all the terrible sins you’ve committed. It should include an overview of the ways you desperately searched for hope in all the wrong places!
The next step in this one page testimony would be to detail how you came to Jesus. Maybe it was an event or a person who introduced you to Christ. Tell about the significant things that got your attention and helped you see the light.
Finally, this testimony certainly needs to explain the difference in your heart and life after coming to Jesus. Describe the joy and hope you feel now that you trust the work and purposes of God. (More tomorrow)
Father, I am so grateful for the difference you make in my life. I praise you for the reality of your work! I pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
