Power to Overcome:
His Divine Power – Part 1
Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 1:4-9
Key Verse: 2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
We have been talking about the power to overcome over these last few days. Today’s scripture makes this theme crystal clear. As Christ followers, we have God’s divine power working in us, giving us everything we need for life and godliness. What a powerful promise to every child of God.
When God’s Word says we have been given everything we need, we must not minimize this statement. Our society is so saturated with commercials and politicians that exaggerate the truth that we tend to discount God’s promises. If you have ever said, “I just can’t do it,” you have minimized God’s promise because He said He has given you everything you need. If you have said, “I will sin, everyone sins, no one can stop sinning,” you have minimized God’s promises. He has given us everything we need for godliness. If you have ever said, “That’s just the way it is; I’ll never get out of debt or be happy again,” you have minimized God’s promise. God has given us everything we need for life!
Once we join God’s family, we will never have a true need that goes unmet. You will never face a task that is too hard for you to accomplish. As a Christ follower, you will never face a temptation that can overwhelm you! Read God’s promise to you again—slowly: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.” Period!
Father, I receive your promise for me today and will walk in confidence. You will provide for me and I will be victorious! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
