The Power to Focus:
Capture One’s Mind – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 10:1-6
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Continuing from yesterday’s devotional, we want to add some practical helps in focusing our minds. If the battle for abundant living is in the mind—and I believe it is—and, if the battle of the mind has been won by Jesus Christ—and I believe He has—then every believer who has received Jesus has received the power to capture their mind! We can win over stress, doubt, and the lust of the flesh.
First, we must catch ourselves thinking. You’ve done that I’m sure. You suddenly realize you are stressing out or thinking about un-Christ like things. The moment you catch yourself with these thoughts, force these words into your mind: “I don’t have to think this way!” These thoughts can come from the devil or our own fleshly desires, but they can be taken captive if we catch them!
Secondly, we must replace them. Have you ever had someone say to you: “You’re putting words in my mouth”? This second step is putting words into your own mouth—and mind. This step is more effective when we prepare for it by having scripture memorized or written on a card that we carry. When we have wrong thoughts, we must replace them with the powerful words of scripture.
Remember three of the most powerful words you can put into your mind: “God help me;” Simple and powerful!
Father, I will capture my mind today in Jesus’ name. I will think on things that uplift me and destroy evil thoughts that destroy me. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
