Make the Commitment – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  Romans 12:1-8

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.

Many struggle to make commitments.  This is especially true if it is a long term commitment.  Our society has come to enjoy lots of options and we want to take advantage of as many as possible.  The thought is, if we make long term commitments to one thing, we may miss out on other options.  This begs the question: “Why should I make commitments?”

The Apostle Paul, in our passage for today, answers that question in verse 1: “In view of God’s mercy.”  He reminds us that if we take a few moments to review all that God has done for us, it will leave us with no other logical conclusion but to commit to Him.

We who believe know that God is our Creator and worthy of our lives lived in full commitment simply for that reason.  But no matter where a person is in their spiritual journey, God’s mercies are evident.  His goodness and kindness to all of us goes way beyond what we deserve.  No one could claim that they earn what God has given.  No one has out given God!

All this being factual, what is the proper response?  The apostle wrote: present your body as a living sacrifice.  In other words, make a full commitment!  No half-hearted service to God should be tolerated.  Take a few moments and review God’s mercies.

Father, as I look back over the last few months, I see your goodness and mercies abundantly clear!  You are worthy of my full commitment!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
