Power to Change:
A Spirit of Power
Scripture Reading: Luke 24:45-49
Key Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
In our additional scripture reading for today Jesus is foretelling a coming power for His followers. The disciples were to stay in one place until they were clothed with power. That is a wonderful picture that God paints for us. He wants to clothe us with His divine power.
Do you have the power to change? Without God’s power, probably not! Our only hope is that God moves in us, clothing us with His power that can accomplish what we can only dream of! The Apostle Paul told Timothy that God has not given us a spirit of timidity. I think timidity is the real enemy of us who are following Christ. We allow timidity to keep us from claiming the promises given us in God’s Word. We allow the devil to lie to us and rob us of the victory purchased for us on the cross.
These scriptures are not trying to get us to go through our day boldly trusting our own strength to fight the evil one. That kind of arrogant pride will produce a fall every time! God wants us to walk through each day deeply reliant on His grace. But with this reliance should come a spirit of power, love and self-discipline! We can do all things through Christ. Here is our confidence and hope for change—Christ in me. Let’s go into our day with solid trust in God’s power.
Father, I will walk in victory today. I will defeat sin and every trick the enemy throws at me. Thank you for being in me and making me well able to live strong! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
