Are you involved with some things or some people that are toxic to your journey with God?

Power to Choose:
But as for Me… – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Joshua 24:14-22

Key Verse:  Joshua 24:15

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua was challenging the people of God to renew their covenant with God in the scripture passage you’ve read for yesterday and today.  He reminded them of their history with God.  He repainted a picture of God’s faithfulness in delivering them out of Egypt and guiding them through the desert.  Joshua wanted them to remember how many times God stepped into their troubles and brought His power to help!  After this sermon from Joshua, he challenged them to fear (respect) the Lord for all he had done and choose to serve their God over all other gods.

Do you have any gods you need to throw away?  Are there some things you are giving yourself to that God is speaking to you about—convicting you that it is sinful?  Are you involved with some things or some people that you have become convinced are toxic to your journey with God?  If so, it is time to choose, and you have the power to choose if you have Christ in you!

Christ followers have the privilege and responsibility to live out the promises made to them.  God has promised us that we can do whatever needs to be done by the power of Christ in us (Philippians 4:13).  Claim your power and choose the abundant life God has made available for you!

Father, I remember your wonderful mercies to me and I will present myself to you to live today for you and your will!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
