Power to Choose:
Now Choose Life – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 30:22-10
Key Verse: Deuteronomy 30:19
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.
As we continue our study of this powerful and critical passage of scripture, we must note that it is God who set up the rules of choice. Moses was God’s mouthpiece and made it clear: “See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction” (vs. 15).
God could have made mankind to be like robots—no choice but to obey His every command. He deemed to breathe into our beings a part of Himself that included free moral agency—the power of choice. We never lose choice until we pass from this earth. We have the power of choice before coming to Christ and we have the power of choice after our conversion.
Some people like the idea of losing this heavy responsibility of choice, especially after coming to Christ. They would like to believe their choices no longer matter. I believe the Bible is clear: God has given us the responsibility to choose and He never takes that away. We can choose a life in Him, which results in eternal blessings or a life without Him, which results in death and destruction.
As we go through our day today, we must remember our privilege and responsibility of making good choices. Every choice carries a consequence. Some consequences are light, some are heavy and serious. Choose carefully!
Father, remind me throughout my day of your help to make good choices. I am determined to lean on you and enjoy your blessings. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
