Power to Choose:
Now Choose Life – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  Deuteronomy 30:22-10

Key Verse:  Deuteronomy 30:19

This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

In my opinion, today’s suggested scripture reading and the printed key verse are powerful words from God.  Moses was God’s man and he spoke words to Israel that were given to him from God.  In verse 11, Moses reminded the people of God that what God was asking of them was not too difficult for them or beyond their reach.

Like the people of Israel, we too must realize that God never asks of us more than we can do.  As God’s children, we have the power to turn from our wicked ways and follow Him.  We have the power to admit our need, let God take over, and walk in total obedience to Him.

In our printed key verse, Moses said that he “called heaven and earth as witnesses against you.”  In other words, all heaven and earth will agree that the choice has been presented to us to follow God or the ways of the world.  We can choose life, loving God, listening to His voice, and holding steady to Him in this wicked generation.  If we choose to, God will help us.  If we choose Him and his ways, God has the grace to infuse us with power.

Our choices have consequences.  Choosing life means many good years on the earth and true blessings that come from the hand of God Himself (vs. 20).

Father, I praise you for the power you give me to choose.  With your strength, I will choose your ways and walk obediently today!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
