Power to Choose:
How Long Will You Waver? – Part 1
Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 18:16-20
Key Verse: 1 Kings 18:21
Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing.
The title of this next two months is: “I Have the Power.” I need to quickly clarify that title. We don’t have the power without Christ in us. Unfortunately, it seems that some believers question their power even after they receive Christ. Paul reminded us that we can do anything and everything through Him who gives us strength (Philippians 4:13). Jesus made it very clear, those who follow Jesus find nothing is impossible for them (Matthew 17:20).
The problem is never with God and His power that is available to us. The problem is our belief that that power is ours to experience. I am hoping that we will have a new understanding and belief in that power when this study is completed. I hope that all of us will grow to new levels of experiencing God’s power in our lives. I hope that we will all say, with great boldness and confidence, “I have the power” for whatever I am called to do in this life. Whatever circumstances come against us, I hope we can face them with a strong faith that they are no match for the power we have in Christ.
Today’s scripture reminds us of that power. The Prophet Elijah was up against a lot of resistance. The other false prophets had all turned to the pagan gods; called Baals. Elijah summoned the people of God and presented them with a choice. He reminded them that they had the power to choose. So do we! (More tomorrow.)
Father, thank you for your plan to redeem me and empower me. I can and will live for you today, strengthened by your Spirit! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
