Learn and Share: God’s Food – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Matthew 24:46-51
Key Verse: Matthew 24:45
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?
As we distribute God’s Word, it seems clear in the scriptures that there is a proper time—a divine time—for it to truly take hold of individuals. John 6:44 reminds us: “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.”
It is our job to prayerfully discern the proper time to share the “food” that we have partaken of. The indiscriminate distribution by “street preachers” does not serve the kingdom well. It is true that God can use anyone and any method He chooses, but it seems clear that He would want us to discern the best approach, as we are faithful and wise in our servant hood!
This discernment must start with a consistent prayer life. Daily seeking God’s direction and sensitivity to the guidance of the Holy Spirit is essential! I often ask God to open my eyes to the opportunities of helping others come to faith. I ask that with the understanding that His nudges may lead me to “deeds of kindness” rather than words from my lips. I want to be open to both options!
Beyond our discernment, we must seek God’s courage—the divine backbone to trust that where God guides, he will provide! As we go in faith, God will be faithful to help us!
Father, help me see people who you have picked out for me to distribute your “food”! Grant me strength and courage to follow your lead! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
