Learn and Share: God’s Food – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 24:46-51

Key Verse:  Matthew 24:45

“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?

Most theologians agree Jesus is speaking of the scriptures when He spoke of “food” in our printed key verse for today.  Jesus asked a very important question: Who is the faithful and wise servant?  In Matthew 24:51, we see that the consequences for not being a faithful and wise servant are horrible: “He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”  We really want to understand the answer to Jesus’ question of who is faithful and wise!

According to Jesus, the answer is simple: The servant who gives the household food at the proper time.  Again, the food Jesus is speaking of is the “Bread of Heaven;” the Word became flesh and dwelt among us!  In other words, we must be faithful and wise in learning God’s Word and sharing God’s Word.  God’s Word, the Holy Scriptures, must become our very “food” that sustains us in this world.  We must love the people around us enough to share this Word that we have been freely given.

Notice Jesus concluded the thought with the words: “at the proper time.”  I believe there is a divine time to share with someone the mysteries of Christ.  If we don’t discern the right (proper) time, the seed may go to waste.  Tomorrow we will look further into this “proper time.”

Father, thank you for providing your food for our souls!  I will eat of your Word and share it with others!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
