Learn and Share: Pass it On
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:1-7
Key Verse: 2 Timothy 2:2
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.
The Apostle Paul is setting up a pattern for young Timothy to follow as he pastors his church. Among the many truths in this line, one of them is about fulfilling the Great Commission of teaching all things that Jesus commanded.
Paul told Timothy to take the teachings that he had heard from Paul and “entrust them,” (teach them) to reliable men. These men are to pass these truths on to others as they teach them. This spiritual chain of events blossoms into the whole world hearing the teachings of Jesus. I believe that Timothy understood that what would qualify as “reliable” is if they shared with others the truths they were learning. Certainly, we need to be reliable in handling the Word of God as well. It is clear that God meant for His followers to learn His commands and share His commands with others. The Old Testament prophet Ezra gave himself to this very truth: “For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to the teaching of its decrees and laws in Israel” (Ezra 7:10). Titus 1:9 adds to this theme, “He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.” Let’s determine to learn and share all that Jesus commanded.
Father, I want to study and hold firmly to all I learn from your Word. Grant me courage to share these truths with others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
