Teach Bible truths today by everything you say and do. Shine brightly for Him…

Learn and Share: Teaching – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 28:16-20

Key Verse:  Matthew 28:20

…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

As we continue yesterday’s thoughts, we want to move on to a second way in which Jesus’ challenge to teach is accomplished.  This second method is to be done by everyone.  It is not given to a few like the first method of formal teaching.  This second method of teaching is the more informal way, which we often refer to as modeling.

Some experts believe that we humans learn nearly everything we know by modeling.  The most powerful tool of teaching is showing how something is done by our actions.  I believe Jesus knew that much of His teaching would be shared with the world by the lifestyles of those who followed Him closely.  In John 15, Jesus is teaching His disciples about being fruitful.  He reminds them that if they remain in Him and He in them, they would be fruitful (vs. 5).  Surely fruitfulness includes the sharing of eternal truths with people who are watching our lives.  In other words, every Christ follower who truly stays in a deep meaningful relationship with God is going to teach people in their circle of influence what it means to be a Christ follower.

When Jesus tells us to go into all the world, teaching them to obey everything he had commanded, surely modeling these truths was a big part of that expectation!

Father, help me to teach your truths today by everything I say and do.  Shine brightly through me.  I ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
