Be determined to remain in Him! If you want to be fruitful allow His Spirit to flow through you.

Commit to the Commission:
Witnessing – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Acts 1:1-11

Key Verse: Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Jesus gave the church our clear call to go into all the world telling and representing His message of hope!  Theologians have called Matthew 28:16-20 the Great Commission.  I have entitled these few devotionals “Commit to the Commission.”  It has been estimated that 10% of believers have a gift of witnessing (evangelism).  These do not need a challenge or prodding to witness—it comes naturally to them.  I have discovered that this 10% of believers cannot understand why everyone isn’t out on the streets boldly speaking of Jesus.  When God gives His gifts, it feels natural to do what our personal giftedness leads us to do.

For the rest of us, the 90% of believers, we still want to witness and represent Christ well!  We have a deep passion to see people come to faith, but we must realize that our true giftedness is in other areas—just as needed and essential to the working of the church.  Jesus said if we (meaning every single believer) would remain in Him and He in us, we will be fruitful (John 15:5).  In my opinion, this paints a picture of a believer staying deeply connected to Jesus on a daily basis.  This person, gifted in evangelism or not, will be fruitful in God’s kingdom.  All of us, no matter our gift, will mix the verbal evangelism with the lifestyle evangelism, as we walk with our Lord daily!

Father, I am determined to remain in you!  I want to be fruitful.  I want you to flow through me.  I want others to see Jesus in me!  I ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
